Born in Lisbon, Portugal (2018), we’re now self-funded with offices in both Lisbon and San Francisco, reaching over 100 million downloads worldwide. **THE ROLE** As a **Mobile Software Architect** at Air Apps, you’ll lead the design of scalable, high-performance mobile architecture for our applications—primarily **iOS** (with cross-functional Android knowledge considered a plus). You’ll collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver elegant, efficient solutions for millions of users globally. This is a strategic and technical leadership role where your decisions will shape the long-term evolution of our mobile ecosystem. **RESPONSIBILITIES** - Define and lead the mobile architecture strategy for scalable, maintainable foundations across projects - Focus primarily on **iOS architecture**, libraries, and platform patterns (while maintaining awareness of Android frameworks) - Partner with engineers, designers, and product managers to align architecture with product goals and UX - Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and performance guidelines - Lead architectural reviews; guide refactoring and scaling of existing mobile apps - Design reusable **APIs, SDKs, and modular components** across teams - Guide decisions on third-party libraries, mobile tooling, and build/deployment pipelines - Collaborate with backend and cloud teams to ensure seamless mobile-to-service integration - Stay current with mobile architecture, performance, and security best practices - Mentor mobile engineers and elevate team technical proficiency **REQUIREMENTS** - **6+ years** of mobile development with a strong architectural mindset - Deep expertise in **iOS development using Swift** (Objective-C knowledge is a plus) - Solid understanding of **UIKit, SwiftUI, Combine**, and modern iOS frameworks - Experience with app performance optimization, modularization, and offline-first strategies - Familiarity with **Android** (Kotlin/Java) is a strong plus - Experience integrating with APIs, mobile data storage, caching, and background tasks - Strong knowledge of App Store submission, mobile security, and compliance guidelines - Experience with **mobile CI/CD**, testing frameworks, and deployment automation - Strong communication skills—able to explain architectural concepts to technical and non-technical audiences - Passion for clean code, design patterns (MVVM, VIPER, etc.), and scalable architecture **WHAT BENEFITS ARE WE OFFERING?** - Apple hardware ecosystem for work - Annual Bonus - Medical Insurance (including vision & dental) - Disability insurance (short and long-term) - 401k up to 4% contribution - Air Conference (meet the team, collaborate, and grow) - Transportation budget - Free meals at the hub - Gym membership **DIVERSITY & INCLUSION** Air Apps is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
