**Tech Lead Manager, Lending — Chime** ## About the role Chime serves millions of members on a mission to help them unlock financial progress. The Lending org builds products and platforms that give members access to fair, transparent credit and liquidity—when they need it most—spanning Earned Wage Access (MyPay), flexible overdraft (SpotMe), longer-term Instant Loans, and the platforms that power credit decisions, funding, repayments, and servicing. You’ll work on some of Chime’s most consequential systems, including real-time money movement and decisioning infrastructure at scale: underwriting and eligibility, ledgering and reconciliation, capital markets workflows, repayment systems, and financial transactions that must be correct, resilient, and auditable. ## Why this role - **A meaningful problem:** Help engaged members get more value over time—high leverage for members and the business. - **Real ownership:** A newer team with clear executive support and meaningful surface area. Shape both technical direction and the team. - **Strong cross-functional partners:** Work day-to-day with senior Product, Analytics, Marketing, Design, and Data leaders. - **A team to build:** Hire, coach, and grow engineers; define culture as the team scales. ## In this role, you can expect to - Author and ship scoped, incremental features **hands-on** - Own the squad’s **technical direction, architecture, and code quality** (design discussions, code reviews, technical planning) - Identify technical debt and advocate for sustainable engineering practices as an active codebase contributor - Provide **full people management** for **3–5 direct reports** (1:1s, coaching, performance feedback, promotion decisions) - Drive **hiring and staffing** for the squad; build an inclusive, high-performing team and own health/engagement (with support from the Director) - Mentor product engineers on technical and product growth; model ownership and craft - Build a path for engineers toward **Staff Engineer** or a future **TLM** role - Partner with Product and Design on sprint scope and delivery commitments; surface technical dependencies and capacity needs into quarterly planning ## To thrive in this role, you’ll need - Direct experience in **lending, payments, or other regulated financial/transactional systems** - Managed engineers with **full people-management ownership** (1:1s, coaching, performance feedback, promotion decisions, hiring) for a small team—while staying hands-on technically - Ability to use **AI coding tools and workflows** as a core part of how you build and lead, with a track record of measurable improvements in team velocity - Strong judgment to **tie-break technical disagreements** and make speed-vs-durability calls under delivery pressure; partner closely with PM and Design on scope, dependencies, and quarterly planning - A bias toward **ownership and action over process**; comfortable being accountable for both what ships and how the team operates - Maintain a high quality bar through **design and code review** (not delegating it entirely) ## Compensation & benefits (high level) - Base salary begins at **$199,000** and can go up to **$275,000** (depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience) - Eligible for **bonus**, **competitive equity**, and **benefits** ## What we offer (highlights) - **In-office policy:** 4 days/week in office; Fridays from home for those near an office (plus team/company events by location).
