More than 1,400 firms in nearly 60 countries use Addepar to manage and advise on nearly $9 trillion in assets, integrating with nearly 650 software, data, and consulting partners. **The Role** Addepar is seeking a highly experienced **Backend Software Engineer (strong Java background)** to join our **Trading** suite of products—including **Rebalancing**, **Order Management System (OMS)**, and **Investment Book of Record (IBOR)**. You’ll help build a scalable, tax-efficient trading & rebalancing platform for wealth management firms of all sizes. The platform targets sophisticated rebalancing strategies across equities, mutual funds, and fixed income products, and sends trades to be completed in the market. You will play a significant role in driving complex, long-term technical designs from concept to delivery—ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and secure. You’ll leverage expertise in software design patterns and distributed systems, pioneer adoption of new technologies, and work closely with product and design teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. **What You’ll Do** - Architect, implement, and maintain engineering solutions to solve complex problems; write well-designed, testable code - Lead individual project priorities, deadlines, and solutions - Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, and partners - Support business needs during US hours; act as an engineering representative to the client and product support - Communicate technical ideas and set direction on projects focused on business challenges - Mentor other engineers on the team - Participate in the design and development of a strategic product for Addepar - Write clean, efficient, maintainable, scalable, and extensible code **Who You Are** - B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science (or similar technical field) or equivalent practical experience - 8+ years of software engineering experience - Expert-level backend development proficiency with a focus on **Java** - Experience with **databases, SQL, NoSQL, OLAP, and/or data lake architectures** - Deep expertise in software design patterns, API design, and the software development lifecycle - Proven ability to **influence technical direction** and make significant contributions to complex distributed systems architecture - Cloud expertise, preferably **AWS** - Comfortable working in a cloud context with automated infrastructure and service-oriented architecture - Track record of amplifying impact by mentoring other engineers - Strong ownership mentality and drive to solve the most important problems - Preferred: experience with **Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs**, and related technologies **Our Values** - **Act Like an Owner** — Think and operate with intention, purpose, and care; own outcomes - **Build Together** — Collaborate to unlock the best solutions; deliver lasting value - **Champion Our Clients** — Exceed client expectations; clients’ success is our success - **Drive Innovation** — Be bold and unconstrained in problem solving; transform the industry - **Embrace Learning** — Engage our community; bring a growth mindset **Additional Notes** - Addepar is an equal opportunity employer a
