**Database Administrator III** **About the Role** Join AccuWeather's data team to manage critical database environments serving a global audience. Reporting to the Data Architect II, you'll oversee the health, reliability, and modernization of production database systems while combining hands-on administration expertise with cloud migration initiatives. **Key Responsibilities** • Administer SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases end-to-end (performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, execution plans) • Design, implement, and test backup, replication, and disaster recovery procedures • Manage database security, roles, permissions, and access control • Monitor capacity planning, storage growth, and resource allocation • Execute database version upgrades, patching, and configuration tuning • Perform routine maintenance (indexing, statistics, vacuuming, space optimization) • Proactively monitor health and resolve issues before production impact • Optimize cloud costs and manage Azure compute spend • Partner with Data Architect and engineering teams on database standards and practices • Plan and execute cloud database migrations with performance and security focus • Mentor less experienced administrators and share best practices **Required Qualifications** • BA/BS in Computer Science, IT, or related field with 5+ years data operations/DBA experience (or MS with 3+ years) • Demonstrated DBA experience with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL • Advanced SQL/T-SQL proficiency; working knowledge of Python or PowerShell • Ability to design monitoring solutions for database health and performance • Experience or strong knowledge of cloud database migrations (Azure) • Awareness of operational cost implications • Demonstrated mentoring/coaching experience **Preferred Qualifications** • Advanced replication topologies (multi-region, active-active) • Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or modern cloud data platforms • CI/CD automation experience • Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipeline experience • Structured post-mortem and root cause analysis participation • Data governance practices familiarity **Location** State College, PA (HQ) or Remote **About AccuWeather** The world's most accurate weather forecasting source, trusted by billions globally and serving over half the Fortune 500.
