**Data Architect I** **About the Role** Lead the technical design behind modernizing AccuWeather For Business, the platform serving more than half of the Fortune 500. You'll assess legacy, on-premises infrastructure and design a cloud-native architecture while maintaining enterprise reliability. **Key Responsibilities** • Assess legacy infrastructure and document current-state architecture, dependencies, and technical debt • Design cloud-native architecture with comprehensive technical specifications • Own architectural direction for the modernization effort across the entire platform • Develop roadmap and sequencing plan to minimize disruption to enterprise clients • Design backend data systems to maintain continuity of critical data delivery services • Partner with engineering teams to validate and implement architecture designs • Contribute hands-on to implementation including code, data models, and platform components • Estimate data consumption, capacity, and infrastructure requirements • Identify and document architectural risks with mitigation strategies • Ensure architecture addresses performance, security, scalability, resiliency, compliance, and data residency **Required Qualifications** • BA/BS in Computer Science, IT, or related field with 5+ years in data/enterprise architecture (or MS with 3+ years) • High-level knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure) and cloud-native architecture • Demonstrated experience assessing legacy systems and designing modern, cloud-native architectures • Experience planning large-scale modernization initiatives for production, customer-facing platforms • Experience designing production data platforms for performance, scalability, resiliency, and recoverability • Experience analyzing complex system dependencies, integrations, data flows, and scheduling requirements • Demonstrated experience with PostgreSQL (relational modeling, schema design, query development) • Advanced proficiency in Python or Go for production-quality code **Preferred Qualifications** • Experience designing backend data platforms for external/enterprise clients • Experience evaluating technology options and modernization approaches • Experience evaluating infrastructure requirements and cloud costs • Familiarity with enterprise security, compliance, SOC 2, and data residency **Skills & Competencies** • Strong systems thinking and ability to design implementable architectures • Excellent written communication for technical documentation • Sound technical judgment and pragmatic problem-solving • Ability to move between architecture and hands-on implementation • Mentoring capability and ability to lead complex initiatives independently **Location** State College, PA (HQ) or Remote
