**Software Developer II** Join AccuWeather's Data Engineering team and help power real-time weather alerts and observations to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. We're seeking a Software Developer II with a passion for backend architecture to design and develop reliable processing systems for real-time weather data flows. **Location:** State College, PA (HQ) or Remote **Key Responsibilities:** • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software processors for real-time weather data ingestion, validation, transformation, and distribution • Collaborate with engineers, data operations, product managers, and stakeholders on processing solutions • Develop new capabilities and enhance existing processors for new data providers and formats • Design and implement database schemas and SQL objects • Create reliable, maintainable, testable, and observable software for production environments • Investigate and resolve software defects and production issues • Write and maintain technical documentation • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices **Required Qualifications:** • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field • 3+ years designing and developing backend services • Experience with Scala or Java, including functional programming concepts • Cloud deployment experience (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) • Relational database experience with schema design and SQL • Experience with XML, JSON, RESTful APIs, and regular expressions **Preferred Qualifications:** • Event-driven, distributed, or message-based systems experience • Weather, environmental, or geospatial data experience • Microsoft SQL Server and Azure experience • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments **Skills & Competencies:** • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences • Advanced troubleshooting and debugging expertise
