Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. **About the Team** Abuse Control Engineering (ACE) is Stripe's rapid-response technical defense and control incubator. We bridge urgent abuse vectors using real attacker telemetry to prototype, test, and deploy software safeguards before vulnerabilities can be exploited at scale. We partner with Fraud, Risk, and Product Engineering to run rigorous experiments and transfer mature controls to long-term product owners. **What You'll Do** Lead a team responsible for closing urgent, cross-product defense gaps and incubating controls. You'll be accountable for technical direction, people leadership, hiring, coaching, and cross-functional execution. **Key Responsibilities** • Set technical direction for identifying abuse gaps and preventing threat recurrence • Lead, hire, and develop engineers with clear expectations and feedback • Guide evidence-based decisions using attacker data and measurable outcomes • Partner on secure control design with Application Security and product teams • Oversee experimentation assessing risk reduction and user conversion impact • Build durable defenses with regression tests and recurrence detection • Manage control incubation with clear success measures and handoff criteria • Complete ownership transfers to permanent product team owners • Lead cross-functional execution across security, product, and engineering **Minimum Requirements** • Experience managing an engineering team with accountability for delivery and technical outcomes • Technical foundation in software engineering, security engineering, or anti-abuse engineering • Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers at different levels • Experience leading cross-functional technical work across teams • Ability to evaluate technical designs and guide decisions on reliability, security, and risk tradeoffs • Strong communication of technical strategy and priorities to teams and stakeholders • Ability to create clarity in ambiguous or urgent situations **Preferred Qualifications** • Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, and balancing risk reduction against user conversion • Knowledge of threat modeling and secure systems design • Familiarity with API safeguards (rate limits, authorization, input validation, step-up challenges) • Knowledge of financial fraud patterns and attacker behavior • Experience with large-scale data platforms for analysis and measurement • Experience incubating capabilities and transferring with clear criteria and documentation • Experience leading distributed teams across time zones
