## Senior Engineer, Backend/Infra **Location:** San Francisco, CA **Type:** Full-time, on-site ### TL;DR We’re hiring a **founding engineer** to help build the backend and infrastructure primitives that AI agents will use to **communicate, authenticate, and operate in the real world**. AgentMail is building an API that gives inboxes to AI agents—**identity + communication provider** for agents. > It isn’t AI for your email. It’s **email for your AI**. ### What you’ll do - Lead and manage a team of **4–6 engineers** - Design **APIs and abstractions** intuitive for both humans and AI agents - Build **high-performance, low-latency** systems with agents as the end-users - Work directly on core infrastructure processing **hundreds of thousands of emails per day** - Think creatively about bridging cutting-edge AI capabilities with something as “primitive” as email - Own projects **end-to-end** (system design → production rollout) - Write **clear, maintainable code** and strong technical documentation - Serve as the **frontline** for customer feedback (you’ll be a spokesperson) ### What we’re looking for - You want to solve problems **end-to-end** and make decisions across frontend, infrastructure, backend, and UX - You have a **high bar for quality** (startup speed, but obsess over details) - You’re a **clear thinker and communicator** (daily standups, weekly syncs; communicate tradeoffs/blockers directly) - You’re highly technical and have shipped **production software** used by real users ### Bonus points - Cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, or developer tools - Messaging, email, auth, or protocol-heavy systems - Experience building for AI/LLM use cases ### Qualifications - **3+ years** as an engineer working on infrastructure at a tech company - Architected software used in production by **millions of users** ### Compensation - **$250k–$400k** base salary - **1.0%–2.0% equity** - Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Doordash) - Medical, dental, and vision insurance - Equinox membership
