About this role

**Senior Software Engineer, ASW Launch Ops — Zipline** **About Zipline** Zipline is the world’s largest and most experienced drone delivery service, building and operating an autonomous logistics system that delivers critical supplies quickly and reliably. Zipline operates on four continents and has completed millions of deliveries, including blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products. **About You & The Role** Join Zipline’s **Application Software** organization as a **Senior Software Engineer on the ASW Launch Ops team**. You’ll build the operational platform that helps turn new markets into live, revenue-generating networks—covering site acquisition, infrastructure design, permitting, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness. This is a **greenfield, high-ownership individual contributor** role. You’ll establish the technical foundations for scaling Zipline from tens of sites to hundreds or thousands, replacing fragmented manual workflows with a unified, auditable, automated operational system. **What You’ll Do** - **Drive core product domains** across site acquisition, permitting, infrastructure design, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness. - **Deliver measurable impact** by reducing manual coordination, shortening site-launch timelines, improving predictability, and increasing execution visibility. - **Lead technical design** (APIs, data models, service boundaries, and architectural patterns) with a focus on maintainability, auditability, and observability. - **Build durable operational workflows** for long-running processes, approvals, dependencies, state transitions, and exception handling. - **Create a unified operational source of truth** with resilient integrations across ERP, GIS, document management, permitting, construction/project management, asset management, and internal systems. - **Design for the people doing the work** by partnering with users, prototyping workflows, validating in real environments, and driving adoption. - **Own production excellence** with health metrics, SLOs, observability, runbooks, recovery mechanisms, and incident response. - **Remain deeply hands-on** by shipping production code, reviewing critical changes, and troubleshooting complex behavior. - **Lead through influence** by clarifying ambiguous problems, identifying systemic risks, and aligning stakeholders. - **Elevate the team** through mentoring and strengthening practices (design, automated testing, CI/CD, reliability, delivery). **What You’ll Bring** - **Senior individual contribution**: at least **5+ years** building and maintaining full-stack production systems at scale (or equivalent mastery). - **Product-minded engineering** with strong judgment across business value, usability, simplicity, and long-term maintainability. - **Systems perspective** to solve ambiguous operational problems and improve real-world processes. - **Strong technical fundamentals** across frontend, backend, distributed systems, and infrastructure. - **Complex workflow experience** with long-running workflows, external dependencies, physical assets, and failure recovery. - **Integration experience** with internal services and external/enterprise systems (ERP/GIS/document/construction/permitting/asset management experience is a plus). - **Modern technology mindset** (comfortable learning across tools such as **Python, Go, PostgreSQL, React, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, Grafana, Honeycomb**). - **Effe
