We take pride in our craft, building reliable, performant, and scalable solutions that touch every part of the business. --- ### About the role As a Senior Software Engineer on **Loan Origination and Reporting**, you’ll build and scale the data platforms and services that process loan originations in real time and deliver accurate reporting to Affirm and its financial partners—strengthening the core financial engine behind transparent, reliable ways to pay over time. --- ### What you’ll do - Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems; ensure everyone is supported throughout delivery. - Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics—participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. - Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues; advocate for them and lead in solving them. - Support operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts. - Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; advocate beyond your team through writing and tech talks. - Help develop talent by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example. --- ### What we look for - **4+ years** designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like **Python** or **Kotlin**. - Track record building **highly available distributed systems** using **AWS**, **MySQL**, and **Kubernetes**. - Deep expertise designing and operating scalable backend **data pipelines** and **batch processing** systems using **Spark**, **Airflow**, or similar distributed frameworks. - Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature/system component with an elegant, simple, extensible design; write high-quality code that’s easy for others to understand and use. - Proficiency making significant changes in a large codebase, with tools and practices that enable safe iteration. - Demonstrated ownership of growth—proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team. - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a **Bachelor’s degree** in a related field. --- ### Compensation & location - **Equity Grade:** 9 - Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. - **USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):** $195,000 - $255,000 / year - **USA base pay range (all other U.S. states):** $173,000 - $233,000 / year - **#LI-Remote** Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including **100% subsidized medical coverage**, dental, and vision for you and your dependents). --- ### Remote-first & benefits - **Remote-first with flexibility built in:** Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment.
