**Senior Engineering Manager** at HumanSignal **About the Role** You'll manage an engineering team building across an open-source platform, enterprise software, and a managed data-services business. You own delivery, team operations, and technical direction while continuing to write and ship code. **Key Responsibilities** • **People**: Hiring, 1:1s, feedback, performance, promotions, and difficult conversations • **Delivery**: Planning, scoping, and shipping quality software on a predictable rhythm • **Team Operations**: Remove friction, address blockers, improve how the team uses AI tooling • **Technical Judgment**: Stay hands-on with code and architecture to support engineers without becoming an approval gate • **Escalations**: Coordinate engineering response to customer, services, and open-source issues **What You'll Build** • Ground-up rebuild of the annotation editor with agent-generated interfaces • Native evaluation of agent trajectories and hybrid human-plus-model-judge workflows • Continuous calibration systems for automated evaluators • Workforce platform for managed services • Quality analytics across annotators, models, and programs **Stack**: Python/Django, TypeScript/React, Postgres, Kubernetes **What We're Looking For** • 2+ years managing engineers; experience hiring, developing people, and making difficult decisions • Strong technical background with sound judgment on architecture and tradeoffs • Active software builder who uses coding agents seriously • Startup experience making decisions with incomplete information • Direct communicator who gives specific feedback and manages proactively • Ability to balance product work with customer deadlines and negotiate realistic commitments **Nice to Have**: ML tooling/data platforms experience, distributed team management, frontend architecture depth **Apply**: Email michael@humansignal.com with examples of your best work and what draws you to HumanSignal
