**2027 Summer Intern, PhD, Machine Learning, Computer Vision** **About Waymo** Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company building the Waymo Driver—the world's most experienced driver. Our software enables autonomous vehicles to perceive the world, make safe decisions, and deliver people to their destinations. **The Role** Software Engineering interns partner with industry leaders on impactful projects in robotics, perception, decision-making, and deep learning. This is a hybrid onsite internship position. **You Will:** • Analyze and characterize internal feature representations of deep multimodal perception foundation models • Design and implement active learning and intelligent data curation algorithms for edge cases • Explore automated data labeling and validation workflows using Vision-Language Models (VLMs) • Train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep neural networks • Validate model performance on large-scale autonomous vehicle sensor datasets and simulation **You Have:** • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related quantitative field • Experience programming in Python and C++ • Practical experience training and evaluating deep learning models for computer vision or multimodal perception (PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow) • Solid understanding of modern neural architectures (Vision Transformers, multimodal sensor encoders) **We Prefer:** • Research experience or publications in active learning, self-supervised learning, or multimodal foundation models • Hands-on experience with multi-camera or 3D LiDAR perception systems • Experience building VLM evaluation pipelines or large-scale data mining workflows • Familiarity with high-dimensional feature analysis and clustering techniques **Compensation** Hourly PhD Pay: $85 USD Interns are eligible for generous benefits programs. **Note:** Rolling basis applications.
