## USRM Distribution & Marketing — Data Science **Senior Director I, Data Science (Independent Agency Data Science Team)** ### Overview USRM Distribution & Marketing Data Science is hiring a **Senior Director I, Data Science** to lead our **Independent Agency Data Science** team. This role spans two key areas: 1. **Quote Efficiency Portfolio** — Oversee the expansion, improvement, and maintenance of a mature model suite that helps Liberty Mutual appear accurately and attractively in comparative raters, makes proprietary quoting/binding systems easier to use, and reflects underwriting appetite in actionable ways. 2. **Emerging IA Data Science Opportunities** — Lead new initiatives including models to help **Small Commercial** products be easier for agents to sell, support **Territory Managers** in optimizing time, and influence the behavior of approximately **100,000 producers** across appointed independent agencies. ### Location / Work Schedule - **Hybrid (2 days/week in office):** Candidates living within **50 miles** of **Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Seattle, WA; Columbus, OH; or Plano, TX** - **Otherwise:** **Remote** with **occasional travel** ### Responsibilities - Collaborate with **analytics, technology, experience, strategy, and marketing** teams to help make Liberty Mutual the best insurer for independent agents. - Lead a team of **7–10 data scientists** working on **ML and AI**: training models, orchestrating agents, packaging code for deployment, and evaluating/monitoring AI/ML performance. - Lead and develop your team by setting clear goals, motivating high performance, leveraging diverse perspectives, and supporting growth and development. ### Preferred Skills & Experience - Deep knowledge of the **data science lifecycle**: identifying/framing opportunities, training and deploying models, and continually monitoring in-market performance. - Experience partnering with **non-data-scientist stakeholders** in complex business environments to define problems, design solutions, and bring them to market. - Prior experience **leading people**. ### Nice to Have - Hands-on **data science and/or ML engineering** technical skills. - Knowledge of the **independent agency distribution channel**. ### Qualifications - Deep knowledge of **predictive analytics** and **statistical diagnostics**. - Expert knowledge of predictive toolsets (highly technical tools). - Proven ability to lead projects to completion through others, including effective talent management. - Strong ability to communicate complex information clearly (verbal, visual, and written) to varied audiences up to **SBU/Corp Dept leadership**. - Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build relationships internally and externally. - Ability to train and present to all levels of the organization; interacts with senior executives. - Ability to anticipate senior management concerns, integrate perspectives, and respond accordingly. - Deep knowledge of business drivers and market context. - Deep understanding of insurance operations and procedures across **Financial, Underwriting, Claims, Statistical, IT, Legal, and Sales**. - Uses business experience and judgment to direct work and communicate results. - Value-driven perspective regarding work context and impact. ### Education / Experience - Typically acquired through an **advanced degree** (Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related) and **8 years** of relevant experience, **or** - A **Bachelor’s
