**Staff Software Engineer (Remote)** **About CodePath** CodePath is the largest educator of college computer science students in the country—supporting 40,000+ students across 1,000+ universities. Partners include Amazon, Google, and other leading technology companies. CodePath is also expanding its AI workforce initiative with Anthropic. **Role Overview** You’ll help architect the next frontier of CodePath’s work by leading across multiple levels at once: system architecture, product direction, team capacity, and the longer-term roadmap. This is a high-ownership role where you’ll work directly with stakeholders, shape what gets built, and lead execution across the full technical stack. **Location / Type** - **Location:** Remote (United States, Europe, Canada, or LATAM) - **Role-Type:** Full-Time - **Reports To:** VP of Engineering **Compensation** - **US:** $170,000–$190,000/year - **Canada, LATAM, Europe:** Adjusted based on location --- ### Key Activities - Architect and build web applications across **Ruby on Rails**, **Sinatra/Padrino**, and **Django** - Make consequential technical decisions across **infrastructure, data modeling, API design**, and emerging technologies - Set the code quality bar through reviews, architectural guidance, and constructive feedback - Write automated tests that cover real edge cases - Identify performance bottlenecks and systemic issues before they become outages - Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical ceiling ### Qualifications - **10+ years** software engineering experience, including **5+ years with Ruby on Rails** - Familiarity with **Claude Code** (or similar development tools) and best practices - Systems-thinking mindset (scalability, maintainability, failure modes) - Strong **PostgreSQL** and database design skills (complex queries, indexing, schema evolution) - Working familiarity with the full web stack (infrastructure to **CSS**) - Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions in a small, autonomous team - Strong written and verbal communication (explain tradeoffs to non-engineers) - Passion for education and making a positive impact ### Nice to Haves - Experience in higher education or edtech - Production experience with **LLMs / generative AI** - Familiarity with **Docker**, **Ansible**, and/or **Terraform** - Experience deploying on **GCP** --- ### Full-Time Employee Benefits (100% Remote) - **Health & Wellness:** Medical, dental, vision (90% employer-covered for employees/dependents), healthcare reimbursement, FSAs, EAP - **Financial Security:** 401(k), employer-paid life & disability, identity theft protection - **Work-Life Balance:** Generous PTO, paid holidays, **10 weeks fully paid parental leave**, year-end closure (Dec 24–Jan 2) - **Professional Growth:** $1,000 annual professional development stipend + home office setup support - **Student Loan Forgiveness:** Qualifying employer for **PSLF** - **Additional Perks:** Pet wellness plans, legal services, insurance discounts, marketplace savings
