Headquartered in Chicago with a distributed global workforce, we’re a lean, growing organization committed to advancing consumer finance in the US. --- ## Internship Summary As a **Software Engineer Intern**, you’ll gain hands-on experience working with our engineering team to build and improve the technology that powers NinjaHoldings’ financial products. This internship offers exposure to real-world software development, mentorship from experienced engineers, and the opportunity to contribute to projects that impact thousands of customers. You’ll be paired with a mentor and collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and product managers. You won’t be expected to know everything on day one—just be ready to learn, ask questions, and grow in a supportive, fast-paced environment. --- ## When / Where / Schedule - **When:** May–August 2027 - **Location:** Hybrid — downtown Chicago HQ (in-office **2x/week**) - **Schedule:** **40 hours/week** - **Relocation:** Candidates must be local or able to relocate independently (relocation assistance is not provided) --- ## Key Responsibilities - Assist in developing and maintaining **Ruby on Rails** applications - Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code with guidance - Collaborate with developers, product managers, and designers on real features - Participate in code reviews to learn best practices and improve your skills - Help troubleshoot and fix bugs in live systems - Learn how financial technology products scale and evolve over time **Potential Engineering Focus Areas (may have the opportunity to explore one):** - **Customer Communication:** email, SMS, mail systems - **Identity:** managing customer data securely - **Decisions:** automated underwriting and marketing lead systems - **Portfolio Management:** lifecycle of lending/banking products and payment integrations --- ## Ideal Candidate Will Have - Incoming **junior or senior** currently pursuing a degree in **Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field** - Familiarity with **Ruby on Rails** (or willingness to learn) - Basic understanding of programming concepts and object-oriented design - Exposure to **HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL** is a plus - Some experience using **Git** or other version control systems - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail - Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and working in a team --- ## Additional Pluses - Exposure to **test-driven development (TDD)** - Familiarity with **Agile** development methods - Understanding of **RESTful APIs** - Interest in **financial technology** and **consumer finance** --- ## Benefits & Perks - Potential path to full-time employment for high-performing interns - Fast-paced, high-energy work environment - Real opportunity to make an immediate impact at a growth-stage company - Build relationships with full-time employees from day one - Convenient downtown Chicago office --- ## Work Authorization Applicants must be **legally authorized to work in th
