We’re mission-driven with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency. **About This Role** General Matter is seeking an experienced **Head of IT** to oversee the company’s IT systems, implement best practices, and drive technology initiatives aligned with business goals. You’ll ensure infrastructure scales as we grow while maintaining **security, efficiency, and reliability**—in a fast-paced, challenging environment. **Responsibilities** - Work closely with engineers to gather requirements and design, plan, deploy, and support **Microsoft enterprise software platforms** and related technologies. - Manage and maintain highly resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible systems. - Recommend, justify, and implement improvements using an accepted **change control** methodology. - Collaborate across diverse teams to deliver creative solutions and resolve problems in a timely, proactive manner. - Define, document, and follow standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation. - Own the health of the IT core infrastructure. - Ensure uptime of critical systems. - Drive improvements to optimize **security and performance**. - Build automation at scale to improve overall efficiency. **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an engineering discipline **with 3+ years** of systems administration experience; **or** 5+ years of professional systems administration experience in lieu of a degree. - Experience with servers in physical and virtualized environments. - 5+ years of experience with **Active Directory, Kerberos, Entra ID**, and multi-platform authentication/identification environments. - 5+ years of experience (including setup, configuration, upgrades, management, and troubleshooting) with **Windows-based systems and services** in physical and virtual environments. - 5+ years of experience monitoring **mission-critical enterprise environments**. **Preferred Skills and Experience** - Expertise designing repeatable, reliable, scalable architectures with high availability, fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring, and metrics. - Understanding of developing web, Python, PowerShell, and Bash scripting applications and build processes. - Linux administration experience. - Automation platform experience (Ansible, Salt, Chef). - Networking experience: IPv4, IPSEC VPN, SSL-VPN, SD-WAN, switching, routing, firewalls, and HA architecture. - Comfortable working with mission-critical and sensitive systems with appropriate urgency. - Excellent communication skills with internal/external customers, vendors, and management. **Additional Requirements** - Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary. **Equal Opportunity Employer** General Matter is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
