About this role

**Staff Software Engineer: Compute** **About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** Anthropic is building software and Claude-powered tools to help scale compute. Frontier AI runs on datacenters, and progress is increasingly constrained by everything around the chips: land, power, permits, equipment, and the buildings themselves. Much of this work still runs on spreadsheets and handoffs. You’ll build tools that help teams source sites, design buildings, procure equipment, and manage construction—earning the trust of expert operators, modeling a messy domain cleanly, and moving fast. **Responsibilities** - Build core systems to track a datacenter’s lifecycle (sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction progress) in a trusted, permissioned source of truth - Embed with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to understand how work gets done, identify the critical path, and build the tools they rely on - Bring order to messy data by migrating/reconciling spreadsheets and legacy trackers, and integrate with industry tools (construction management, scheduling, engineering systems) - Design for trust: fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data quality for information that drives major investment decisions - Ship early, iterate with users, and remove anything that doesn’t help bring compute online sooner - Partner with research to understand new model capabilities and where they fall short in engineering-heavy, physical-world domains **You may be a good fit if you** - Have 8+ years building software with strong full-stack skills and solid grounding in data modeling, APIs, and databases - Have built software used by teams in physical-world industries (datacenters, construction, energy, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics) - Have a track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments - Are deeply user-centric: learn the domain from the people doing the work and validate before over-investing - Have high agency and good judgment; hold strong opinions loosely - Communicate clearly across engineering, operations, and research, and care about societal impacts **Strong candidates may also have** - Datacenter experience (hyperscaler, colocation provider, operator, utility, or engineering firm) or adjacent fields (construction, logistics, legal) - Experience with domain tooling (e.g., construction management like Procore/Autodesk Construction Cloud; scheduling like Primavera P6; PLM/BOM; ERP/procurement; CAD/BIM; DCIM; power system studies) - Background in electrical/mechanical/civil engineering, energy systems, or supply chain alongside software - Experience building products with large language models **Candidates need not have** - 100% of the listed skills - Formal certifications/education credentials - Direct machine learning/AI research experience **Deadline to apply** None — applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. **Compensation (Annual Salary)** $405,000 — $485,000 USD **Logistics** - **Minimum education:** Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience - **Required field of study:** Relevant to the role (via coursework, training, or professional experience) - **Minimum years of experience:** Correlates with internal job level - **Location-based hybrid policy:** Staff expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time (some
