**Engineering Manager, ChatGPT Search Product Infrastructure** **About the Team** The ChatGPT Search Product Infrastructure team builds foundational systems powering search experiences across ChatGPT. We develop product infrastructure connecting models with search systems and real-time information sources, enabling timely and trustworthy answers at global scale. **About the Role** Lead the team responsible for ChatGPT's Search Product Infrastructure. You will: • Define technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for search orchestration, APIs, model integration, serving, experimentation, and observability • Lead and develop experienced engineers with meaningful ownership and high-trust culture • Partner with Post-Training, Inference, Indexing, and Retrieval teams on model launches and architecture evolution • Build reusable platforms enabling Search product teams to independently implement and launch features • Establish 99.9%+ availability and sub-second latency service objectives • Lead complex workstreams and remove technical/organizational bottlenecks across ambiguous environments **You Might Thrive If You Have:** • Experience managing senior engineers leading complex, high-scale product infrastructure or distributed systems • Technical depth in backend infrastructure, platform engineering, low-latency serving, or AI-powered product development • Understanding of how models, inference, search orchestration, and product infrastructure work end-to-end • Experience partnering with research teams on model launches, experiments, and prompt optimization • Track record building shared platforms with strong reliability and performance guardrails • Ability to balance technical depth, product strategy, and people management in ambiguous environments **About OpenAI** OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
