**Affirm — Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Partner Merchant Interface)** Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly—giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Partner Merchant Interfaces (Integration team within Decisions Foundations) is growing. You’ll help build the APIs partners and merchants use to integrate with Affirm, and support some of our top partners like Amazon and Stripe. --- **What you’ll do** - Work on team projects and goals with support from your teammates - Collaborate proactively with team members and stakeholders, creating visibility and dialogue around risks and trade-offs - Balance speed and quality to meet business goals while protecting systems from downtime - Contribute to team growth through learning and development activities --- **What we look for** - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale (work or internship experience) - Proficiency with **Python or Kotlin** - Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as **AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes** - Ability to turn a simple problem/business scenario into a solution spanning multiple software components - Strong coding practices: clear, well-tested, extensible, and easy-to-understand code - Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback via code reviews - Demonstrated ownership of growth—proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders - Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a **Bachelor’s degree** in a related field --- **Compensation & location** - Base Pay Grade: **N** | Equity Grade: **9** - **LI-Remote** (remote-first; occasional in-office requirements for proximal roles) - USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): **$195,000 – $255,000** per year - USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): **$173,000 – $233,000** per year --- **Benefits (highlights)** - Health care coverage: Affirm covers all premiums for you and your dependents - Flexible Spending Wallets: stipends for Technology, Food, Lifestyle needs, and family forming expenses - Time off: competitive vacation and holiday schedules - ESPP: employee stock purchase plan with a discount --- Affirm is proud to provide an inclusive interview experience and offers reasonable accommodations during the hiring process. *Note: For U.S. positions that could be performed in Los Angeles or San Francisco, Affirm will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with applicable fair chance ordinances.*
