**Control Systems Software Engineer, Robotics** **About the Role** Join OpenAI's Robotics team to architect and implement real-time control infrastructure for intelligent robot behavior. This hands-on role focuses on control algorithms, actuation, dynamics, and whole-robot performance with significant onsite work in San Francisco. **Key Responsibilities** • Design and implement real-time control algorithms (motion control, feedback loops, state estimation, actuator control) • Define control architecture from low-level actuators through whole-robot behavior • Characterize actuator and hardware parameters through rigorous testing and verification • Collaborate with ML engineers on reinforcement learning integration • Work across mechanical, electrical, and software teams • Inform mechanical and electrical design decisions **What We're Looking For** • Strong robotics background (manipulators, mobile robots, or complex physical systems) • Experience with actuation, control systems, dynamics, estimation, and subsystem tuning • Hands-on hardware experience: commissioning, debugging, testing, and iterating • Strong fundamentals in classical control, system dynamics, and estimation • Proficiency in C++ or Rust for production-quality software • Comfort moving across the full stack from low-level hardware to high-level algorithms • Experience with simulation and real-world testing iteration **Location** San Francisco, CA | In-person 5 days/week **About OpenAI** AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
