Recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 List and Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company. **The Role** Lead the Machine Learning Engineering team within Checkr's Data & ML organization. This team owns: • Core product intelligence: NLP, classification, entity resolution, and production services • Workforce integrity: fraud detection and risk systems • ML and agent infrastructure: evaluation systems, model lifecycle, and reusable infrastructure **What You'll Do** • Lead and grow the ML Engineering team through hiring, coaching, and technical development • Set strategy and roadmap aligned with company priorities • Raise the production engineering bar for models and agents • Build the ML operating model with shared evaluation and monitoring approaches • Advance core product intelligence and model quality • Launch new AI and fraud detection products • Guide Checkr's agentic AI transition • Operate as an executive partner across teams • Model AI-native leadership practices **What You Bring** • 10+ years building software and ML/AI systems with clear progression • 3+ years managing ML or software engineers, including senior/staff-level leaders • Strong software engineering foundation with production ML experience • Technical depth across the ML lifecycle: data, experimentation, deployment, observability, evaluation • Experience with NLP, classification, extraction, entity resolution, or fraud/risk domains • Fluency with modern LLM systems and agent orchestration • Track record translating ambiguous problems into sharp roadmaps and shipped systems • Strong people leadership and executive-level communication • A-player mindset with bias for action **Nice to Have** • ML infrastructure or MLOps platform experience • Document intelligence, OCR, identity resolution, or trust & safety background • Experience in compliance-sensitive domains (fintech, legal tech, HR tech, healthcare) • Python, AWS/SageMaker, Snowflake, Spark expertise • Launched an AI product from discovery through production scale **Compensation & Benefits** Base Salary (San Francisco): $268,000–$315,000 USD • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage • Learning and development allowance • Competitive equity • Flexible PTO • Monthly wellness stipend • Up to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning **Location** San Francisco, CA (3+ days/week in office).
