**Senior Backend Software Engineer (APIs)** **About the Role** Fastly's Security Products Console team is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, ship, and own public-facing APIs and backend services in Go. You'll shape the API surface for Next-Gen WAF, DDoS protection, Bot Management, and upcoming security products as they scale for new launches and a growing developer ecosystem. **What You'll Do** • Design and ship public-facing APIs and backend services in Go—from technical proposal through production rollout and on-call support • Partner with frontend engineers, product managers, and security researchers to deliver end-to-end customer experiences • Turn ambiguous problems into well-defined technical plans • Author design and architectural documents to drive alignment across teams • Mentor and grow other engineers through code review and technical leadership • Participate in on-call rotation • Use AI coding agents as part of your daily workflow **What We're Looking For** • 5+ years shipping production Go as your primary language • 3+ years on public APIs with external consumers—you've shipped breaking changes and written deprecation notices • Experience designing reliable, large-scale backend systems • Strong RESTful API design judgment: resource modeling, versioning, idempotency, error semantics, pagination, OpenAPI • You design for downstream users—customers, support engineers, frontend teammates • Testing and observability mindset; you can name metrics that paid off • Comfortable using coding agents as a daily driver **Nice to Have** • Experience building or operating security products (WAF, bot, DDoS, app security) • Working knowledge of auth at API scale (RBAC, OAuth, JWT, SAML) **Location & Hours** San Francisco, CA or Denver, CO (hybrid preferred; remote considered for exceptional candidates in US Pacific/Mountain time zones). Core business hours (Pacific Time) + occasional on-call nights/weekends. **Compensation & Benefits** $181,220 - $217,464 + equity and discretionary bonus.
