## Liberty Mutual — Senior Director, Data Science (Small Commercial Product Design & Modeling) ### Overview The creative problem solvers in Liberty Mutual’s US Retail Markets Data Science Team harness the power of data, analytics, and technology to develop innovative solutions that drive the US Retail Markets business forward and support a high-performing culture. The **Small Commercial (SC) Product Design and Modeling** team is hiring a **Senior Director I, Data Science** to lead the development and delivery of **predictive analytics tools and insights** that enable data-driven strategic decision making. This executive-level role will oversee **SC General Liability** and **SC Property** data science resources. **Location / Work Model** - Candidates who live within **50 miles** of **Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Seattle, WA; Columbus, OH; or Plano, TX** will follow a **hybrid** schedule (in office **two days per week**). - Otherwise, the role is **remote** with **occasional travel**. ### Responsibilities - Manage, provide technical oversight, and develop a team of data scientists (may include subordinate managers). - Coach the team to understand and align with organizational vision and goals. - Collaborate with business partners to develop tools and services such as **modeling, dashboard development, and decision aids**. - Provide strategic and tactical direction at the highest levels. - Own performance and results for one or more large, strategically important business units in an extremely large market. - Lead highly technical, complex, cross-functional projects that drive change across function, SBU, or Corporate Department. - Direct and/or perform highly complex predictive analytics projects and cross-functional assignments within the business unit. - Own relationships with a defined segment of the business, delivering advanced tools and insights (including ongoing monitoring of metrics and initiatives). - Shape the data science community and/or larger audiences; lead cross-functional working groups. ### Qualifications - Deep knowledge of **predictive analytics techniques** and **statistical diagnostics** of models. - Expert knowledge of predictive toolsets and highly technical tools. - Proven ability to lead and drive projects to completion through others, including experience effectively managing talent. - Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information verbally, visually (presentations/exhibits), and in writing to stakeholders up to and including SBU/Corporate leadership. - Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build effective relationships internally and externally. - Ability to train and present to all levels of the organization; interacts with senior executives. - Demonstrated ability to anticipate senior management concerns, integrate perspectives, and respond accordingly. - Deep knowledge of business drivers and market context. - Deep understanding of insurance operations and procedures across **Financial, Underwriting, Claims, Statistical, Information Technology, Legal, and Sales**. - Strong business judgment and value-driven perspective regarding work context and impact. **Education / Experience** - Typically acquired through an advanced degree (Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related) and **8 years** of relevant experience, **or** - Bachelor’s degree (scientific field) and **10 years** of relevant experience. - Insurance or financial services industry experience pref
