Backed by $100M in funding, we're building the data foundation that powers better outcomes, reduces waste, and improves member and provider experiences. **About the Role** We're looking for a Senior AI Engineer to lead our applied AI initiatives. You'll set technical direction, design systems architecture, mentor engineers, and bridge technical capability with business needs. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll drive deployment of state-of-the-art AI models while remaining deeply technical. **Key Responsibilities** • Lead technical direction on AI/ML projects and serve as liaison between engineering and business stakeholders • Shape our applied AI areas and intelligence features (Abacus Agents, MCP, SQL/RAG agents) • Develop novel data collection, fine-tuning, and LLM techniques; design ML/AI pipelines • Build scalable backend systems for GenAI products with robust logging and evaluation • Mentor engineers while staying hands-on with code and architecture • Influence key technical decisions and drive process improvements • Represent Abacus credibly in customer-facing technical conversations **What You Bring** • 3+ years ML/AI engineering experience in high-velocity companies (or equivalent research background) + 8+ years overall software development • Track record leading teams/projects to production and mentoring engineers • Strong hands-on experience with language models, GenAI, agents/agentic workflows, MCP, and RAG • Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and scalable ML/AI architecture • Experience with end-to-end model development from research through deployment • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience with distributed systems at 10s-100s TB scale • Knowledge of Cloud Architecture, AI Architecture, MPP compute frameworks, and API-based services • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience **Nice to Have** • Databricks and Mosaic AI Gateway experience • Snowflake experience • FHIR familiarity • Healthcare data exposure • Prior tech lead or people manager experience **Benefits** • Unlimited PTO • Remote-first flexibility • Comprehensive health coverage • Equity grants • Growth-focused environment • Home office setup allowance • Monthly cell phone allowance **Equal Opportunity Employer** Abacus Insights is committed to building diverse teams and providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants.
