Scientific Cloud is Flagship's portfolio-facing IT organization, responsible for cloud engineering, data and informatics engineering, research systems, and lab systems that power emerging companies. **Role Overview** We're seeking a Lead Data Engineer to lead complex initiatives modernizing our data infrastructure, platforms, and pipelines. You'll implement core platform systems, set standards for data infrastructure, and work across Infrastructure & Operations, Lab IT, Pioneering Intelligence Tech, and the scientific community to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions. This is a senior individual-contributor role reporting to the Associate Director of Data Architecture & Engineering. **Core Responsibilities** **Data & Platform Engineering** • Lead complex data engineering projects across interdependent systems, legacy environments, and cloud-first platforms • Implement data infrastructure, platforms, tools, and data products • Optimize and manage data storage solutions (lakehouses, marts, warehouses) • Build complex backend and data integration pipelines • Establish engineering standards for testing, documentation, release management, and monitoring • Lead platform observability, management, resilience, capacity, and performance initiatives • Diagnose and resolve complex failures; lead incident reviews and system improvements **Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership** • Collaborate across teams to ensure architectural alignment and component reuse • Champion engineering best practices and technical excellence
