**Junior Generative AI Engineer** at Cleary Gottlieb **Overview** Join Cleary Gottlieb's internal AI team building bespoke solutions for legal work. We're a remote-first, tight-knit team combining software engineering, data science, and deep domain expertise. You'll gain exposure to real-world AI systems from day one in a dynamic learning environment. **What You'll Do** • Contribute to production AI systems: Build and improve LLM-powered document analysis features (extraction, classification, risk flagging) • Data Preparation & Engineering: Clean, structure, and label legal data to power AI systems • Build features within agent workflows: Implement components of multi-step AI workflows for legal tasks • Support evaluation & quality: Write test cases, contribute to eval pipelines, and maintain regression suites • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with lawyers, engineers, and product teams **How We'll Support You** • Dedicated mentor for your first 6+ months • Structured 90-day onboarding plan • Regular pair-programming sessions • Thorough code reviews as learning opportunities • AI safety and bias training • Clear progression framework (Junior → Mid → Senior) **What We Need** • Software development experience (internships, co-ops, or substantial projects) • Hands-on exposure to LLM/GenAI tools or APIs • Solid Python skills and basic SQL • Conceptual understanding of RAG pipelines • Familiarity with at least one LLM API (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) • Basic cloud platform knowledge (AWS or Azure) • Strong communication skills **Nice to Have** • CS, Math, Computational Linguistics degree or related field • Hackathon, open-source, or fast-paced team experience • Vector database or retrieval system experience • Legal tech or regulated industry exposure • Portfolio projects or open-source contributions **Compensation & Benefits** Estimated base salary: $120,000–$160,000 (varies by qualifications and location) Comprehensive benefits package including health care *Equal opportunity employer.
