**Senior Generative AI Engineer** at Cleary Gottlieb **About the Role** Join the AI Acceleration Team to own the full lifecycle of LLM-powered products—from rapid prototyping through production deployment. You'll design, ship, and operate AI systems that extract intelligence from complex legal documents, orchestrate multi-step agent workflows, and deliver measurable accuracy improvements under real-world latency and cost constraints. **Key Responsibilities** • Own production AI systems end-to-end: design, build, deploy, and monitor LLM-powered document analysis pipelines • Design and ship agent workflows for complex legal tasks (due diligence, contract review, regulatory analysis) • Define evaluation and governance frameworks with automated eval pipelines and guardrails • Optimize cost and performance across model providers with caching and batching strategies • Collaborate with lawyers and product teams to translate workflows into structured AI problems **Required Experience** • 3+ years building and deploying AI systems; 1-2 years focused on LLM/GenAI in production • Deep experience with document-heavy NLP (PDFs, tables, scanned documents, entity recognition) • Proven RAG pipeline design and prompt architecture optimization • Strong Python engineering; familiarity with LLM orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, LlamaIndex) and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) • Cloud platform experience (AWS/Azure) with CI/CD, containerization, and observability • Systematic evaluation methodology design for generative AI • Ability to own workstreams end-to-end and communicate tradeoffs to stakeholders **Nice to Have** • Startup or high-velocity AI team experience • Advanced degree in CS, Computational Linguistics, or related field • Model-serving infrastructure experience (vLLM, TGI, Triton) • Legal tech or regulated industry domain experience • Published research or open-source contributions in NLP/IR/GenAI **Compensation & Benefits** Base salary: $200,000–$240,000 (depending on qualifications and location).
