**Senior Staff Software Engineer, Institutional Exchange** **About the Role** Set the architectural direction for Coinbase's institutional trading platform. As the most senior technical voice across multiple teams, you'll own the matching engine, order management, market data, and unified trading systems that clear billions in daily volume. Shape a trading platform from the ground up with startup ownership and Coinbase's reach. **What You'll Do** • Own technical strategy and architecture for core Exchange domains • Lead design of ultra-low-latency, event-sourced trading systems • Drive cross-team technical alignment across Exchange, Prime, and Derivatives • Set quality standards for deterministic testing, failover design, and 24/7 operations • Maintain hands-on contribution while leading through senior engineers • Mentor L5-L6 engineers and develop next-level technical leadership **Required Experience** • 10+ years software engineering with significant production trading/exchange systems at scale • Deep expertise in low-latency distributed systems (Java, C++, or Go) • Architectural ownership of end-to-end trading platforms • Proven track record influencing technical direction across teams • Experience with on-prem/colocated and cloud latency-sensitive systems • Interest in crypto and institutional markets • Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight **Compensation** $262,650 – $309,000 USD base salary (varies by location). Includes equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits. **Work Environment** Remote-first with quarterly in-person "surge" sessions. High-intensity environment focused on impact and pushing limits.
