ID.me’s technology meets federal standards for consumer authentication set by the Commerce Department and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. **Role Overview** ID.me is seeking a **Senior Software Engineer** to join the **Reporting & Billing** team. You’ll help build the definitive record for the member experience—capturing every workflow, decision, step, and outcome as people prove who they are—so customers can report on it, analysts can study it, and invoices can run on it. In this role, you’ll own the reporting data model, design delivery mechanisms (APIs, exports, event streams) that get data into customers’ hands, and help architect the automated billing system that runs on top of it. This scope spans product-facing data platform work and revenue-critical financial systems. **Location / Work Arrangement** This position works from the **McLean, VA office five days per week**. **Key Responsibilities** - **Build the Transactions Data Model:** Build the customer-facing data model to track user activity. - **Build Customer Data Delivery:** Design and build mechanisms for customers to access reporting data via the Developer Portal (query APIs, scheduled/on-demand exports, webhooks, and event streams). Own API contracts and delivery SLAs, including versioning, backwards compatibility, and deprecation. - **Develop Billing Automation:** Implement the metering and billing architecture that turns events into accurate, auditable charges. - **Reliability, Correctness & Compliance:** Own availability and correctness of reporting data writes/reads and billing runs at production scale. Lead observability, data quality monitoring, reconciliation tooling, query performance, and incident response for issues that are either customer-facing data defects or revenue defects. Ensure systems meet security, privacy, and audit requirements of a NIST 800-63-3 AAL2/IAL2 credential service provider. - **AI-Augmented Development:** Model and champion AI-first engineering practices (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and help the team adopt these workflows effectively. **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. - **6+ years** of professional software development experience building and operating production web applications. *(Less for PhD/Masters.)* - **3+ years** building developer-facing platforms (e.g., developer portals, API platforms, authentication platforms, cloud platforms, payments platforms, or other self-service developer experiences). - **3+ years** with **TypeScript, React**, and modern frontend architecture, including production experience with **Next.js** (or similar) and backend services using modern web frameworks such as **Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Java**, or similar. - Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and commitment to an AI-first engine
