You'll also help shape future initiatives including LLM-powered agents for legal request triage and a secure external portal. **You Will** • Design, develop, test, ship, and maintain features automating Block's response to legal and regulatory requests • Write high-quality, well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews • Design systems handling sensitive customer data within microservice and event-driven architectures • Partner with Counsel, Compliance, and Operations to translate legal requirements into automated workflows • Participate in operational ownership including on-call, incident response, and postmortems • Reduce toil and modernize services, leaving them more reliable than you found them • Leverage AI-powered tools throughout development to improve velocity and quality • Hold high engineering standards and support teammates through technical discussion **You Have** • 3+ years of software development experience • Experience building and maintaining production systems end-to-end (design, build, test, ship, operate) • Full-stack experience across backend services and user interfaces • Drive to identify and fix flaws in complex systems • Ability to clarify partially-specified problems through thoughtful questions • Strong communication skills explaining technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers • Demonstrated AI fluency with AI-powered developer tools • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience **Nice to Have** • Experience with sensitive data (PII, PCI) or privacy/security/regulatory requirements • Background building internal tools, operational workflows, or case management systems • Experience integrating LLMs or agents into production • Experience modernizing long-lived, business-critical services • Interest in legal, compliance, or investigations technology **Tech Stack** Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Java, Kotlin, React, TypeScript, AWS, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, MySQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis, Kafka, Datadog, Buildkite, Gradle, LLMs & AI agents **Compensation** (varies by location zone) Zone A: $180,000–$270,000 | Zone B: $171,000–$256,600 | Zone C: $162,000–$243,000 | Zone D: $153,000–$229,600 USD
