**Software Engineer IV, Datastore** **About the Role** Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Software Engineer IV to join the Datastore team—the heart of Beacon's platform. This role focuses on designing and scaling backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs that serve scientific and clinical data. You'll lead the design of complex systems within the Datastore, own pipelines delivering dataset snapshots to the warehouse, and collaborate across teams to implement APIs unlocking new workflows. **What Success Looks Like** • Lead design and architecture for complex Datastore projects, weighing trade-offs with data-driven decisions • Partner with product, scientific, and clinical stakeholders to translate requirements into platform solutions • Debug and profile cross-system problems, improving structure, test coverage, and tooling • Demonstrate high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability • Draft RFCs to guide complex feature discovery and technical design • Plan work with reasoned trade-offs between speed, generalizability, and technical debt • Mentor engineers regularly and improve operational robustness through documentation and tooling **What You'll Bring** • 7+ years backend development; 3+ years on data platforms and infrastructure • Deep expertise in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL proficiency; comfortable with schema design and query optimization • Hands-on experience with Kafka or equivalent (RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Kinesis) • Proficiency in Julia or Python (Julia experience is a strong plus) • Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js) • Kubernetes and IaC tools (Terraform/Helm) experience • Track record mentoring engineers and improving team practices • Collaborative mindset with excellent async communication skills • Self-directed approach thriving in remote environments **About Beacon Biosignals** Beacon is transforming precision medicine for the brain through at-home EEG platforms for clinical development and diagnostics, combining EEG and cardiopulmonary signals for reimbursable assessments in sleep and CNS disorders.
