**About the Role** Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly—giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. This role is part of the team that owns everything that happens **after a card transaction settles**. You’ll build and operate systems that keep customer accounts accurate and help resolve issues when something goes wrong post-transaction, working closely with teams across card issuing, transaction processing, and money movement. As Affirm expands its card offerings, the volume and complexity of post-transaction interactions continue to grow. You’ll help shape customer-facing outcomes for one of Affirm’s most strategic and fastest-growing products. --- **What You’ll Do** - Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver work in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery. - Partner with product management, design, and analytics by contributing to ideation, articulating technical constraints, and weighing risks/trade-offs. - Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in “keep the lights on” on-call. - Contribute to team community and growth by participating in activities like the interview process. --- **What We Look For** - 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer. - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficient in **Python or Kotlin**. - Familiarity with distributed systems fundamentals and technologies such as **AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes**. - Ability to turn business problems into solutions spanning multiple software components with clear, well-tested, extensible code. - Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews. - Demonstrated ownership of growth through proactive feedback seeking. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team. - Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. --- **Compensation & Benefits (Highlights)** - **Base pay range (USA Pacific: CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):** $165,000 – $225,000 USD - **Base pay range (USA Sapphire: all other U.S. states):** $146,000 – $206,000 USD - Total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends (health, wellness, tech), and benefits such as **100% subsidized medical coverage** (plus dental/vision for you and dependents). - Remote-first: most roles are remote; some proximal roles may occasionally require working from an assigned Affirm office. - Additional benefits include health care coverage, Flexible Spending Wallets, competitive time off, and ESPP. --- **Location / Work Style** - **#LI-Remote** - Remote-first with flexibility within the country of employment; occasional in-office requirements for some roles. --- *Equal opportunity statement and accommodations are available during the hiring process.*
