**Principal Software Engineer - Performance Engineering (Cloud Infrastructure)** **Location:** Menlo Park **About the Role** Join Snowflake's Capacity, Performance & Efficiency team to drive cloud infrastructure performance strategy. This high-autonomy role combines deep hardware expertise with business impact—evaluating new hardware generations, building benchmarking infrastructure, and translating performance data into pricing and rollout decisions. **Key Responsibilities** • Own evaluation and enablement of new hardware across AWS, Azure, and GCP • Set performance strategy, measurement methodology, and technical roadmap direction • Lead cross-functional partnerships with engineering teams, Finance, and cloud service providers • Analyze CPU microarchitecture and hardware performance at a deep level • Develop price/performance models for hardware transitions • Automate hardware readiness validation workflows and scorecards • Mentor engineers and grow performance engineering discipline company-wide **Required Qualifications** • 12+ years in performance engineering, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering with principal-level technical leadership • Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure performance (AWS, Azure, or GCP) • Strong fundamentals in CPU microarchitecture, memory bandwidth, I/O subsystems, and profiling tools • Experience building large-scale benchmarking systems and translating results into business decisions • Ability to build quantitative models connecting technical metrics to business outcomes • Track record leading cross-functional, cross-company initiatives • Bias toward automation and building scalable solutions **Nice to Have** • Data warehouse/distributed database performance experience • Direct experience with cloud provider or silicon vendor early-access programs • Hardware emulation system experience **Learn More** Visit careers.snowflake.com for salary, benefits, and to apply.
