**Senior Systems Engineer, Cloudflare Data Platform** **About Cloudflare** Cloudflare’s mission is to help build a better Internet. We protect and accelerate internet applications using our intelligent global network—improving performance while reducing spam and other attacks. **Available Locations** Austin, TX • Seattle, WA • London, UK **About the Department (ETI)** Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) builds and releases new products within Cloudflare, leveraging the edge and network to solve problems at massive scale. **About the Project** **Cloudflare Data Platform** (announced during Birthday Week 2025). We’re expanding engineering teams working on: - **R2 Data Catalog**: Manages Iceberg metadata and performs ongoing maintenance (including compaction) to improve query performance. - **R2 SQL**: Cloudflare’s in-house distributed SQL engine for petabyte-scale queries over data in R2. **What You’ll Do** - Own code from inception to release, delivering solutions across the software stack. - Architect globally distributed data consistency models. - Optimize storage engine performance. - Design novel APIs for data-centric products. - Work with technologies including **JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, and C++**. **Examples of Desirable Skills / Experience** - **6+ years** working with distributed systems. - Experience building and managing **high-volume** software applications. - Strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, and design). - Knowledge of at least one modern strongly-typed language (primarily **Rust, TypeScript, Go**). - Ability to debug, optimize, and identify failure modes in large-scale distributed systems. **Bonus Points** - Experience building/managing large-scale data storage platforms. - Experience in low-latency real-time environments (e.g., game streaming/engines, HFT, payment systems). - Experience with non-garbage-collected languages (e.g., **Rust or C++**). - Experience writing **JavaScript and TypeScript**. - Deep **Linux/UNIX** systems knowledge. **Compensation & Equity** - Compensation may vary by location. - For certain U.S. locations: **$185,000 – $254,000** estimated annual salary. - Eligible to participate in **Cloudflare’s equity plan**. **Benefits (U.S.)** Includes health & welfare (medical/dental/vision, FSA, commuter accounts, fertility & family forming benefits, mental health support/EAP, travel medical) plus financial benefits (disability, life/accident, 401(k), employee stock participation) and flexible time off. **Notes** - In-person interviews may be required for applicants who progress. - Role may require access to information under U.S. export control laws. - Cloudflare is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants.
