**Engineering Manager - Workers Runtime, Edge Team** **Location:** Austin, Lisbon, or London (Hybrid) **About the Role** Lead the Workers Runtime - Edge team within Cloudflare's Emerging Technologies & Incubation division. Own the runtime service in production across Cloudflare's fleet and drive architectural evolution of this performance-critical, security-sensitive platform that executes customer code at the edge. **Key Responsibilities** • Lead senior systems engineers working in C++ and Rust on a mission-critical service • Drive major infrastructure initiatives including legacy system migration and core architecture redesign • Own reliability and release safety for a service handling tens of millions of requests per second • Improve release processes, health monitoring, and automated rollback capabilities • Balance customer-unblocking feature work with foundational security and reliability investment • Partner with adjacent Developer Platform teams on compute, storage, networking, and observability • Hire, develop, and mentor strong systems engineers **Required Experience** • Team leadership experience • 4+ years recent professional experience with C++ or Rust • Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, design patterns) • Deep understanding of web technologies (browsers, HTTP, JavaScript, WebAssembly) • Strong Linux systems programming, process models, and networking knowledge • Proven planning and execution skills with predictable delivery **Bonus Skills** • High-performance distributed systems experience • Cloud/serverless platform experience • JS engine internals (V8, SpiderMonkey, JavaScriptCore) • WebAssembly runtime experience (Wasmtime, Wasmer, Lucet) • Large-scale open source contributions • Low-latency environment experience (game streaming, HFT, payments) **Compensation & Benefits** • **US Salary:** $220,000 - $303,000 (varies by location) • **Portugal Salary:** €89,000 - €122,000 • Equity participation eligible • Comprehensive health, wellness, and financial benefits • Flexible PTO and leave programs
