This is a **hybrid** role requiring onsite work **3+ days per week** from our office in **Somerville, MA** or **Weirton, WV**. **Relocation assistance is available.** --- ## Role Description As a **Staff Forward Deployed Engineer**, you embed directly with the teams doing Form Energy’s hardest work—**scientists, engineers, operators, and business leaders**—to find the highest-leverage problems in their world and build the **software and AI** that solves them. You won’t wait for perfect requirements or handoffs. You go where the leverage is, **ship**, and **stay with what you built** as it matters. This is a **hands-on, senior individual-contributor** role where your impact is measured in **problems solved**, not tickets closed. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Embed with teams** across R&D, manufacturing, field, commercial operations, and supporting functions to understand their hardest problems firsthand. - **Hunt for leverage**: diagnose bottlenecks caused by missing software, manual processes, or brittle tooling; decide what’s worth building; deliver it. - **Drive AI-driven automation adoption**: prototype and ship AI-enabled tools/agents and drive real adoption within Form Energy’s AI-governance guardrails. - **Own applications end to end**, including full-stack systems (e.g., **React/Next.js/TypeScript**, **Python/FastAPI**, **PostgreSQL**) that become governed systems of record and decision-support tools. - **Turn expert knowledge into durable software** by converting spreadsheets, notebooks, and tribal knowledge into correct, maintainable, owner-attributed systems. - **Build governed, traceable data models** with versioned, append-only revision history and role-based access. - **Integrate with enterprise systems** (e.g., **Snowflake** read-only reference data; Oracle/Arena/Jama and shop-floor/operational systems) while respecting authoritative boundaries. - **Ship to production reliably** using containerized services, CI/CD, and deployment on Form Energy’s internal Kubernetes platform, with observability, testing, and documentation. - **Use AI aggressively as a force multiplier** (AI-assisted and agentic development) to build faster and at higher quality. - Work in a **prototype-to-product** style: deliver working tools quickly, iterate with users, and harden into reliable software without accumulating unmanageable debt. --- ## What You’ll Bring - **8+ years** building and shipping production software; proven experience owning complex applications end to end. - Strong **full-stack** skills: modern web framework (**React/Next.js/TypeScript or similar**) and production back end (**Python/FastAPI strongly preferred**), plus solid relational data modeling (**PostgreSQL**, SQLAlchemy or equivalent). - **AI as a force multiplier** (required): demonstrated AI-assisted/agentic development experience and a track record of embedding AI/ML into applications/workflows to remove toil and create leverage. - **Range and self-direction**: comfortable entering unfamiliar domains, getting fluent fast, and shipping; able to be the sole/primary engineer and own outcomes. - Ability to model complex real-world domains in software, translating messy expert knowledge into corre
