**Technical Program Manager, AI Safety & Safeguards** **About the Team** OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. The team delivers increasingly capable AI systems with scalable technical safeguards, clear risk ownership, rigorous deployment readiness, and cross-functional coordination. **About the Role** Drive complex product, platform, and safety initiatives across ChatGPT, API, enterprise, and deployment environments. Operate at the intersection of technical strategy and execution—turning safety and product priorities into actionable plans, influencing architectural decisions, and delivering capabilities across model, infrastructure, application, and platform layers. **Key Responsibilities** • Partner with product, engineering, research, and design to shape technical roadmaps and safeguards priorities • Translate objectives into execution plans balancing delivery, platform evolution, customer needs, and responsible deployment • Lead cross-functional programs end-to-end from problem definition through launch and iteration • Own milestones, dependencies, risk mitigation, and accountability across teams • Drive development and integration of safeguards (evaluations, mitigations, classifiers, detection, monitoring, enforcement) • Coordinate readiness for sensitive deployments with appropriate safety coverage and operational controls • Identify emerging misuse and severe-harm risks; define ownership and response mechanisms • Establish metrics for program delivery, deployment readiness, safety effectiveness, and user experience • Communicate program health, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering teams and executives **You Might Thrive If You Have** • Strong track record delivering high-impact technical programs in product, platform, infrastructure, ML, or safety • Technical judgment across distributed systems, cloud deployments, APIs, and scalable architecture • Experience with safety, integrity, or abuse-prevention systems • Strong program management discipline and product judgment • Clear communication with engineers, executives, and external stakeholders • Experience with sensitive deployments or serious-harm domains • Hands-on, curious approach to responsible AI deployment **Location** San Francisco, CA (Hybrid: 3 days/week in office)
