**Software Security Architect, Operating Systems | Consumer Devices** **ABOUT THE TEAM** OpenAI Consumer Devices is building next-generation products that bring powerful AI into everyday lives. The Operating Systems team is critical to this mission, turning sophisticated hardware and AI capabilities into a reliable, trusted platform. Security is central to that work. **ABOUT THE ROLE** Define the security architecture for OpenAI's next-generation operating system. You'll work alongside hardware security architects and partner with OS, silicon, firmware, privacy, and product teams to protect users, devices, and data. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES** • Define OS security architecture, trust boundaries, privilege model, and protections for sensitive user data • Partner with hardware security architects to integrate roots of trust, secure elements, and TEEs • Design foundational platform defenses: secure boot, code signing, attestation, secure updates, key protection • Establish isolation and access controls across kernel, applications, services, and AI workloads • Define guardrails for AI applications and agent access to information, sensors, and tools • Lead threat modeling and architecture reviews across the platform • Prototype solutions and guide engineering teams through technical tradeoffs **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** • Deep experience designing or securing operating systems, kernels, embedded platforms, or privileged systems software • Complex understanding of OS internals: memory protection, process isolation, executable loading, device drivers • Experience building security architectures spanning hardware, firmware, OS, applications, and cloud services **PREFERRED EXPERIENCE** • Secure boot, code signing, device identity, attestation, trusted execution, hardware-backed key protection • Systems code review in C, C++, Rust with strong secure development knowledge • Threat modeling and cross-functional team influence • Consumer OS, mobile platforms, or connected device security shipping experience • Kernel hardening, memory-safety mitigations, virtualization-based security • AI agent security, sensitive-context isolation, or prompt-injection resistance **ABOUT OPENAI** AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
