**Technical Program Manager, Developer Experience** **About the Team** The Product & Platform teams at OpenAI deliver impactful offerings like ChatGPT, the API platform, and enterprise capabilities. The Developer Velocity team partners across engineering to make development faster and releases safer, more predictable, and easier to operate. **About the Role** Lead durable improvements to local development, CI, testing, build systems, release trains, progressive rollout, and post-deployment validation across ChatGPT. Identify high-leverage sources of engineering friction, align teams around shared standards and metrics, and drive adoption of tooling and workflows that improve speed and reliability. *Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid - 3 days/week in office)* **Key Responsibilities** • Own the cross-functional roadmap for improving local development, CI, testing, build workflows, and release infrastructure • Create intake and prioritization mechanisms for developer friction using evidence-based prioritization • Lead programs improving deployment speed and safety, including pre-merge confidence, progressive rollout, and post-deploy validation • Improve reliability and predictability of release trains across backend, web, mobile, and desktop platforms • Partner with platform, infrastructure, and reliability teams to reduce deployment incidents • Define and operationalize metrics for developer productivity, build health, deployment throughput, and engineering velocity • Drive adoption of automation, observability, and scalable developer tooling **Ideal Candidate** • Led complex technical programs in developer infrastructure, CI/CD, build/test systems, or release engineering • Can engage deeply with engineers on workflow architecture and deployment systems • Delivered measurable improvements in developer velocity or deployment reliability • Excels at turning fragmented ownership into durable mechanisms and standards • Uses data to prioritize work and distinguish real gains from local optimization • Leads effectively across teams without direct authority • Communicates with precision across technical and executive levels • Cares about OpenAI's mission of responsible AI access
