**Systems Software Engineer, Silicon Bringup** **About the Team** OpenAI's Hardware organization develops AI-native silicon and system-level solutions for advanced AI workloads. The team is building next-generation AI-native silicon and integrated systems to power frontier models through co-designed chips, systems, tools, and methodologies. **About the Role** You will lead systems software strategy for bringing new AI silicon from first power-on to fully integrated production systems. You'll define how software validates compute, memory, interconnect, and I/O subsystems, and build diagnostics, automation, and observability infrastructure. **Key Responsibilities** • Develop end-to-end software bringup and validation strategy for new silicon and systems • Define software-driven test coverage across compute, memory, interconnect, and I/O • Build diagnostics, test automation, telemetry, and regression infrastructure • Lead bringup from silicon arrival through board integration, runtime enablement, and model execution • Design stress tests for reliability, performance, and stability characterization • Debug complex hardware-software failures and coordinate cross-team fixes • Validate integrated systems deliver expected functionality and performance **You Might Thrive If You Have** • Strong systems programming experience (C, C++, Rust, Python, or similar) • Experience bringing up complex silicon, accelerators, servers, or hardware-software systems • Deep understanding of computer architecture and subsystem behavior • Low-level debugging skills across firmware, drivers, OS, and hardware • Expertise in test strategy, coverage analysis, and scalable automation • Background in performance characterization, stress testing, or production readiness • Cross-disciplinary communication skills and ability to drive ambiguous technical work • Commitment to building durable tools and processes **Note:** U.S. export control compliance may apply to this role.
