## Software Engineer, Platform (Developer Experience) ### About Benchling Benchling is the AI platform for biotech R&D—helping scientists design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models directly in their workflows. With over 200,000 scientists worldwide using Benchling, the mission is to compress slow, manual R&D processes into faster paths from discovery to patients and from lab to field. ### Role Overview (Developer Experience) As a technical leader in the Platform pillar, you’ll partner with the Developer Productivity and Release Engineering teams to build tools and frameworks that improve developer experience—especially the **Path to Production**. Your work will help engineering teams deliver high-quality products efficiently. ### Responsibilities - Build and implement tooling for efficient, frictionless development, testing, and packaging for production releases. - Lead the design and development of release tooling to enable code changes to reach production within **10 minutes**. - Iterate on developer experience improvements using qualitative and quantitative feedback. - Implement feedback loops that integrate quality into software development workflows. - Champion effective engineering and operational patterns across the Engineering org. - Collaborate cross-functionally to address engineering workflow challenges that impact developer happiness and productivity. - Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineering peers to make Benchling a great place to build software. - Help rapidly scale product and team. ### Qualifications - **4+ years** of software engineering experience. - Experience building tools/software with a **product-first** mindset; ship quickly and care about real-world impact. - Expertise with at least one web framework (preferably **Node** or **Python**). - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to iterate based on feedback. - Enjoy ownership and building key product components. - Empathy for customers and curiosity about their challenges. - Interest in learning more about life science (prior knowledge not required; desire to learn is a must). ### Interview Process As part of the interview process, you’ll complete a brief **AI-focused exercise or discussion** to understand how you think about and use AI to drive impact in your role.
