**Senior Staff Engineer, Frontend** **About Plane** Plane is building the infrastructure the world's work runs on—a open, adaptable work management platform used by 55,000+ stars on GitHub. We serve teams globally, with particular strength in aerospace, defense, and financial services. Plane is backed by top investors and operates across San Francisco, London, and Hyderabad. **The Role** Own the architecture of Plane's frontend: state management, the sync boundary with our Elixir service, the design system guarantees, and performance/accessibility standards for dense views with tens of thousands of issues. You'll work across frontend, backend (Elixir/Django), and design teams in a fully public repository. **What You'll Do** • Own frontend architecture: state flow, sync service boundaries, and shared component library • Lead real-time collaborative editing end-to-end (transport, offline behavior, conflict resolution) • Set and maintain performance and accessibility standards for complex views • Design how agent activity appears in the interface with full visibility and attribution • Mentor frontend engineers and establish standards that persist • Manage migrations across a public codebase with community contributors **What You'll Bring** • 8+ years building web applications with owned architecture • Expert in TypeScript and React; can debug rendering to the browser level • Experience owning a design system other teams depend on • Shipped real-time collaborative editing to production (CRDTs, OT, or equivalent) • Track record raising the level of engineers around you **Tech Stack** React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, MobX, ProseMirror, WebSocket sync, Electron, Vite, Python/Django, Golang, Elixir, Postgres, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes **Nice to Haves** • Rich-text editor framework experience (ProseMirror, Tiptap, Lexical) • Can read Elixir, Go, or Python to follow bugs across boundaries • Built and shipped Electron desktop applications • Maintained open-source projects with public contributors Plane is an equal opportunity employer.
