**Backend Software Engineer - Codex for Finance** **ABOUT THE TEAM** OpenAI for Financial Services builds AI products for financial institutions and professionals. We combine OpenAI's models, financial data, and enterprise knowledge to help professionals research companies, analyze markets, and produce high-quality work. **ABOUT THE ROLE** We're seeking backend engineers to build systems that make advanced AI useful, reliable, and trustworthy in financial services. You'll own zero-to-one product building with significant autonomy. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES** • Design and build backend systems powering AI-native financial workflows • Build infrastructure to ingest, index, retrieve, and serve financial data at scale • Develop integrations with financial data providers and enterprise systems • Build systems for model/agent tool usage, source provenance, and accurate outputs • Improve reliability, latency, observability, and quality of production systems • Work directly with financial institutions to understand needs and unblock deployments • Partner across teams to take capabilities from prototype to scaled production **IDEAL CANDIDATE** • 5+ years professional software engineering experience with production backend systems • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript • Experience with data-intensive applications, search/retrieval systems, or complex integrations • Strong product instincts and ability to move from ambiguous problems to solutions • High bar for reliability, security, privacy, and performance • Interest in AI applications to professional work • Startup/founder experience or track record building new products from scratch is a plus **ABOUT OPENAI** OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
