**Staff Software Engineer, Foundations Data Platform** **About the Role** Lead the re-platforming of the data layer underneath Vanta's compliance product. You'll architect the migration from a monolithic Mongo-centric system to a Kafka data pipeline backed by Postgres and S3, handling tens of thousands of security and compliance resources per second. **Key Responsibilities** • Lead migration of resource data model from Mongo to schema-aware Postgres while running both in parallel • Drive solutions across dependent teams and design for correctness under eventual consistency • Design and evolve data ingestion and pipeline architecture for reliable, high-throughput terabyte-scale processing • Take Query API from internal use to production with schema versioning, joins, exports, and per-tenant isolation • Build auditable data infrastructure where evidence holds up in front of auditors • Diagnose production-scale failures (hot partitions, unbounded fan-out, online table rewrites) • Set architectural direction for streaming (Kafka), caching (Redis), and storage (Postgres, MongoDB) • Mentor senior engineers and champion engineering excellence across data infrastructure **What We're Looking For** • Proven track record leading platform migrations (v1→v2) while maintaining backward compatibility • Strong expertise in streaming/queuing infrastructure (Kafka or equivalent) • Deep experience with distributed systems and enterprise-scale data pipelines (terabyte-scale ingestion) • Fluency in relational and document data modeling (Postgres, MongoDB) at scale • Experience collaborating with leadership on multi-quarter technical roadmaps • AWS fundamentals and comfort with TypeScript/Node • Ability to articulate complex tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences **What Vanta Offers** • Competitive salary and equity • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage (100% employee premiums covered) • 16 weeks paid parental leave • Health & wellness stipend • Remote workspace, internet, cellphone stipend • 401(k) matching with immediate vesting • Flexible PTO + 80 hours sick time • 11 company-paid holidays • Offices: SF, NYC, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, Sydney **About Vanta** Vanta helps businesses earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification.
