**Staff Software Engineer, Compute Platform (Routing)** **About the Role:** Own the routing layer that connects every service at Coinbase to its customers. Design and deliver net-new routing capabilities that improve scalability, reliability, and performance of application traffic across the entire fleet. **What You'll Do:** • Own design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure directing application traffic to Kubernetes backends at scale • Build capabilities on top of Envoy-based reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE service authentication • Drive measurable improvements to latency, reliability, and performance of application routing systems • Shape the paved-road developer experience for operating applications at Coinbase, with emphasis on AI-driven tooling • Partner with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to ensure routing infrastructure meets cross-cutting platform requirements **Required Experience:** • 8+ years in software engineering and infrastructure roles • 5+ years hands-on with application routing technologies (reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, service mesh) • Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java with production-grade infrastructure services experience • Experience scaling backend infrastructure on AWS (networking, compute, container orchestration) • Deep familiarity with CNCF ecosystem (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio) • Track record diagnosing complex distributed systems issues independently • Responsible use of generative AI to improve workflow efficiency and infrastructure reliability **Compensation:** Base salary: $218,025 – $256,500 USD (varies by location) Total compensation includes equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)) **Work Style:** Remote-first with quarterly in-person "surge" sessions
