**Manager, Applied AI Engineering (Codex)** **ABOUT THE TEAM** The Applied AI Engineering team helps customers turn frontier AI capabilities into real products and business impact. The Codex team specifically focuses on transforming how software is built with AI, partnering with engineering teams to integrate Codex into their development lifecycle. **THE ROLE** Lead a team of Applied AI Engineers driving Codex adoption across strategic customers. You'll shape technical engagement strategy, coach engineers, and ensure strong execution while serving as both a people leader and senior technical advisor. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES** • Lead, hire, and mentor a high-performing team of Applied AI Engineers • Own the operating model and technical engagement strategy for Codex • Guide teams in designing AI-enhanced workflows, agentic systems, and scalable architectures • Act as senior technical escalation for complex implementations • Partner with Sales, Product, Research, and Engineering teams • Establish repeatable technical patterns and best practices • Coach engineers to operate as trusted technical partners • Synthesize customer insights and translate to product feedback • Champion safe and effective AI adoption across industries **WHAT YOU'LL BRING** • 8+ years in technical, customer-facing roles (applied engineering, solutions architecture, consulting) • 2+ years leading technical teams with hiring and mentoring experience • Experience building/deploying generative AI, developer platforms, or agentic systems in production • Strong hands-on software engineering experience (Python, JavaScript, etc.) • Understanding of modern software development lifecycles • Ability to work directly with customer engineering teams on ambiguous problems • Strong communication skills for technical and executive audiences • Comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous environments • Demonstrated ownership, humility, and technical judgment • Commitment to safe and beneficial AI development **LOCATION** San Francisco (hybrid, 3 days/week in office)
