Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. ### About the Team The Issuing team owns the Stripe card issuing product end-to-end—from APIs and backend services powering spend cards, debit cards, and charge cards, to dashboards and embedded components for managing card programs. We're at an inflection point, expanding into new geographies, card categories (stablecoin, healthcare, consumer credit), and major platform partnerships. ### What You'll Do • Define and drive technical strategy for Issuing, including multi-year architecture decisions • Own end-to-end technical solutions for critical systems, authorization flows, spending controls, and cardholder management • Identify and lead infrastructure investments unlocking new issuing models and geographic expansion • Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional partners across Issuing, Authorization, Clearing and Settlement, and Balances • Make principled build-vs-reuse decisions and produce clear technical roadmaps • Advise engineering and product leadership on technical trade-offs • Drive engineering standards, tooling improvements, and operational rigor • Mentor and grow senior engineers ### Who You Are **Minimum Requirements:** • 10+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated staff-level impact • Proven track record designing and shipping large-scale products with highly available, financially correct distributed systems • Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects end-to-end • Strong API design instincts and ability to build simple interfaces over complex financial requirements • Ability to influence technical direction and align multiple teams without direct authority • High ownership mindset—comfortable with ambiguity and defining problems • Clear communication on complex technical topics for technical and non-technical audiences **Preferred Qualifications:** • Experience with real-time transaction processing systems (authorizations, payments, settlement) • Familiarity with card network protocols, BIN sponsorship, or issuing bank integrations • Experience in regulated financial services (compliance, audit trails, KYC/KYB) • Background in embedded finance, card-as-a-service, or Banking-as-a-Service platforms • Track record mentoring senior engineers and contributing to hiring and culture
