This is a remote-first, but not remote-only company—expect quarterly in-person working sessions called **“surges.”** Coinbase is hiring **Staff Software Engineers** across several teams within the **Developer Infrastructure** group in **Platform**. You’ll own the tools and systems every Coinbase engineer depends on to build and ship software—especially **scalable CI/build infrastructure** and **deployment orchestration**, where improvements compound across thousands of engineers. --- ## What you’ll do - Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including **CI/build systems** and **deployment orchestration**, from design through production operation. - Identify the group’s highest-leverage problems, turn ambiguous/unscoped challenges into concrete technical roadmaps, and drive alignment across dependent teams. - Drive step-change improvements to metrics engineers feel: **build & CI wall time**, **deploy speed & safety**, and **developer feedback latency**. - Lead strategic, cross-cutting initiatives end to end, including large-scale platform migrations—delivering across many teams. - Raise the reliability bar by owning **SLOs**, **observability**, and **on-call**; design systems that recover fast rather than cascading into company-wide incidents. - Partner with engineering customers, EMs, and leadership to shape technical strategy, drive org-wide adoption, and mentor engineers through design review, pairing, and shared ownership. --- ## Required Skills and Experience - **8+ years** building and operating production distributed systems; hands-on proficiency in **Go** or a comparable systems language; direct experience with **CI/CD**, build systems, or deployment tooling. - Proven ability to design and ship high-impact backend/platform systems that many engineers and services depend on—owning them from ambiguous problem statements through long-term production operation. - Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives (details continue in the original posting).
