About this role

## Framework Software Engineer ### About ExtraHop ExtraHop is on a mission to protect and empower the connected enterprise by delivering visibility into cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and network performance issues. Their platform combines Network Detection and Response (NDR) with Network Performance Management (NPM), intrusion detection, and forensics—analyzing packet-level data at wire speed to help organizations investigate smarter, stop threats faster, and keep operations running. ### Position Summary As a Software Engineer on the **Framework** team, you’ll work on complex development challenges and help design and scale the systems that power ExtraHop’s core products. You’ll collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Security to deliver customer-facing features enabling detection, visibility, and automation at scale. The team builds **high-performance network detection and monitoring systems** that operate at scale across complex protocols and large data volumes. The work is primarily in **C and C++**, with a focus on **security, scalability, stability, and reliability**—including areas such as protocol parsing, metrics publishing, continuous packet capture, and Time Series DB. You’ll also contribute to next-generation initiatives such as scaling/performance improvements, evolving the data storage architecture (custom to open-source based), and early steps toward a cloud-enabled model. ### Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain high-performance services for ExtraHop’s core Framework systems; own moderately complex to complex features with limited guidance - Work across networking layers to implement and enhance protocol support - Participate in technical design discussions, contribute to architecture decisions, and author clear technical documentation - Engage in agile processes (sprint planning, code reviews, retrospectives) with a high bar for code quality and test coverage - Collaborate with Product and cross-functional engineering partners (platform, infrastructure, cloud) to translate requirements into well-scoped, scalable solutions - Investigate, diagnose, and resolve production and performance issues independently; perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures - Contribute to platform modernization and help evaluate/adopt new technologies with senior/principal engineers - Participate in on-call rotations and improve observability, reliability, and operational readiness ### Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, STEM, or related field - **4+ years** of professional experience designing and delivering production software - Strong expertise in **C and C++** (and other languages such as **Go** and **Python**) - Experience developing on **Linux** (multi-threading, memory management, IPC, etc.) - Proven ability to build and maintain **performance-critical systems** - Proven ability to debug complex issues (e.g., **gdb**, coredumps, performance tools) - Strong networking fundamentals (e.g., **TCP/IP**, packet processing) - Strong data structures, algorithms, and software design principles; ability to decompose complex problems into actionable tasks - Self-starter who can operate independently and drive work to completion - Excellent collaborator/communicator with a growth mindset and customer-first orientation ### Nice-to-Have Qualifications - Experience with network protocols (e.g., HTTP, SMB, Kerberos, TLS, Microsoft protocols) - Exposure to clo
