**Staff Engineer, Search Systems** **About the Role** The Search Systems team at MongoDB builds core infrastructure behind MongoDB Search and Vector Search. You'll set technical direction for one of MongoDB's most strategic investments, defining architecture for a self-contained search system spanning Community, Enterprise, and Atlas. **Key Responsibilities** • Own cross-system data infrastructure for next-generation Search and Vector Search capabilities (6-18 month outcomes) • Define technical roadmap for Atlas Search and drive alignment across global engineering teams • Lead architecture and evolution of mongot and Mongo Management Service infrastructure • Drive complex multi-team initiatives by building consensus and setting direction • Serve as trusted technical partner to leadership on roadmap and architecture • Mentor team members and raise technical standards through code review and knowledge-sharing • Standardize how engineering teams contract with one another globally **Required Qualifications** • 10+ years in data management systems or distributed infrastructure • Deep proficiency in modern programming languages (Java fluency preferred) • Demonstrable experience designing and operating distributed systems, cloud services, or SaaS at scale • Strong understanding of physical layer: data consistency, durability, concurrency, failure modes • Track record operating at Staff/Principal scope: defining direction, resolving ambiguity, championing initiatives **Preferred** • Experience with search platforms or distributed databases • Experience debugging/profiling multithreaded JVM applications **Location** San Francisco, CA (Hybrid) **Compensation** $151,000 – $297,000 USD (base salary for U.S.-based candidates) **About MongoDB** MongoDB is the leading data platform for the AI era, trusted by 67,000+ customers including ~75% of Fortune 100 companies.
